WEEK 2: VS OREGON
That would be five losses in the last six games, sports fans. If you're an aficianado of local sports-talk radio.........YOU WERE WRONG. 6-0 heading into the LSU game? Maybe not. Time to change those letters in your head from B-C-S to W-A-C. As Pat Hill used to state fairly regularly a couple of years ago, with this 31-24 loss (at HOME), the season is over. There's nothing left to play for.
Well, maybe that's not quite true anymore. That LSU game is still out there October 21st. FSU can go to Washington and get another "huge win" over a BCS opponent next week. And we will now be compelled to call into Dog Talk and other radio shows and claim a moral victory with this loss to an Oregon team that is better than USC ever was, twice as good as the Indianapolis Colts, and strong enough to dominate Lombardi's Packers.
This game was physical. The Fresno State team acquitted itself well, especially in the face of a very rough first half. But this game shows exactly what the difference is between WAC wannabes and PAC10 powers. Fresno State just isn't there yet. This year's Fresno State team took a big shot in the mouth, literally as well as figuratively, in the first half. They fought back and played the Ducks very close.
But Oregon is better than Fresno State. Stronger, deeper, more experienced. That's how this went. Last year's more seasoned team could have won this game at this point in the season at home. This year's edition isn't there yet. They did good, but they're still a mid-major.
