MIRACLE IN UTAH, BCS WILL HAVE TO NOTICE

On Saturday afternoon, Fresno State faced one of the most daunting tasks that any college football team has ever had to tackle. The WAC and national powerhouse 'Dogs hit the road for a gutcheck in Logan, UT against CBS Sportsline's 113th ranked team. Hell no, it wasn't easy. But what do you expect when you're in third place in the WAC? EVERYBODY'S gunning for you. You get everybody's "A" game.

A huge upset looked to be in order when the Aggies took the lead with 38 seconds left on a Marquis Butler rushing touchdown.

But the 'Dogs wouldn't be denied and they kept their highly anticipated showdown with Texas in the BCS Championship Game in order with a clutch 58-yard field goal by Kevin Goessling as time expired.

You knew it was going in, too. At 58 yards it was an all-time school record. Goessling can handle that from the left hash. Just don't ask him to knock in a 22-yarder. If he could do that, none of this drama would have even been necessary.

Let's see the Bowl Coalition ignore this. Not a chance. Let's just hope Texas can keep from being upset.

HAWAII 32, FSU 29 OT

It is a distinct possibility that there will be a two-loss team in the BCS championship game on January 8th in Miami, but I am very skeptical that it will be Fresno State, their excellent schedule nothwithstanding.

After tonight's 32-29 overtime loss to Hawaii AT HOME, let's recap this glorious season so far.

9/1 - A 24-7 win over Rutgers, who is now 1-4

9/13 - A 13-10 loss to Wisconsin, who is now 3-2

9/20 - A 55-54 2OT win over Toledo, who are 1-4 and lost to Ball State 31-0 tonight

9/27 - Another monumental win over a BCS opponent, 36-31 vs. UCLA at the Rose Bowl. UCLA is now 1-3 and has been outscored about a billion to 5 this year. And they scored 31 points off of Fresno State's defense when Bullard High would probably have held them to 20 or less.

And now this masterpiece tonight. Hawaii moves to 2-3 and Fresno State is in a class with Weber State as a team that has lost to the Warriors. Weber State lost out on the island, however. Pat's boys managed to turn that feat at home in front of a sellout crowd.

Several things are pretty clear at this point. First, the disappointing season of 2006 wasn't an aberration. Last year's winning season was.

Second, Tommy Brandstater makes Paul Pinegar look like David Carr. Get rid of the freakin' ball, for crying out loud.

And finally, Hawaii is FSU's daddy. Everybody do the Haka Dance now!
