FSU FOOTBALL FINISHES STRONG
Well, where were we? Last time I gave enough of a shit to post anything, the 'Dogs had just pulled a last-second victory out against a hapless Utah St. team to improve to 5-2 on the season. But who are we Red Wavers to call another program hapless? The calendar turned to November and we now know that there were only two more wins on the 2008 schedule.
There were a few little things of note along the way, though. You know, like a 61-10 loss in Boise with that invaluable national coverage showing all the gory details, a three-point loss at La Tech with 14 people in the stands and a come-from-ahead loss to Colorado State in the prestigious New Mexico Bowl. A guy you never heard of ran the equivalent of three full marathons while the FSU defense cheered him on as the Rams pulled it out 40-35.
There was one other thing of note....what the hell was that....something about....Oh yeah! Pat Hill applied for the Washington Huskies job and everybody in the Valley hoped he'd get it. Then he broke our hearts yet again when he pulled out of the running. He gave U-Dub a small window to make their choice because he needed to get the 'Dogs ready for their bowl game if he wasn't heading north. Good thing he made that call, it paid big dividends in Albuquerque.
So this season that started with typically unwarranted hopes of a BCS berth ended at 7-6 with a crushing loss in one of the first bowl games of the season. December 20 is a long way from New Year's Day.
And the Fresno State football team is a long way from building what Bobby Bowden built at Florida State and Frank Beamer built at Virginia Tech. As 2008 turns to 2009, we're nowhere near being a national power, can't win the WAC, don't belong on the same field as Boise State (who is almost certainly moving to a better conference while FSU stays behind in the wasteland that will be known as the WAC), and our coach wants to leave because not enough fans show up for his team's half-ass performances.
Go 'Dogs!
